The Course (Chinese 3005: Chinese Poetry Into English) is:
An introductory course to Chinese poetry, both classical and contemporary, in English. ´Serves to heighten students’ appreciation for language itself in its most intense forms. ´Explores issues in the intercultural and inter-lingual interpretation of foreign literature through the study of Western translations of and scholarship on selected Chinese poets. ´Enable students to take a look at several different academic disciplines and the way that creates and analyzes knowledge about the world. ´Examine experiences, perspectives, and values different from those that are dominating the United States and European. Obliges students to think about cross-cultural communication
Required work:´
- Attendance and participation
- Discussion Notes and journals
- One Library research project (including oral report)
- One Power point presentation
- One poetry translation (Notes: Chinese characters will be translated into English word for word, with explanations. Students will be asked to create English poems. Chinese language skills are not required)
- One poem
- Two Tests
- One paper for one aspect relating to the content of the course.
